The Modern Escape was both modern, and surprisingly, given its proximity to other houses, situated perfectly to make it feel like a retreat. Very comfortable as a home base for a spectacular outdoors adventure — we had permits for both North and South Coyote Buttes, but even without those, we did some amazing hiking, including Yellow Rock and White Pocket — and a great place to enjoy meals and hang out. The feeling from the instructions for the house was a little more corporate than we’re used to, and there was little direct communication — for example checking in on our trip once we arrive — but Marilynn and the management company overseeing the rental nonetheless created an experience that was still completely comfortable and satisfying. (And the instructions in the house encouraged us to text or call if there were problems; we had none.)
